Doh-best Valentine Sensory Kit

Besides the chocolates, stuffed toys, and waiting for Cupid to shoot one of those heart arrows in our direction – I wanted to do an activity with the girls till they ditch me for their dates! And nothing beats play doh sensory kits. The kids absolutely loved them, AND it helped to keep them busy for a long period of time! Plus, how a-doh-rable are they!

It took me about 10-15 mins to whip up a batch of non toxic play doh. Assembled bits and pieces in a tray – gems, feathers, pom poms, cookie cutters, a rolling pin and heart shapes made out of pipe cleaners. And voila – this kept the girls busy for almost an hour! They did add to the activity by bringing over multiple items from their toy kitchen, but it was sweet seeing them do their own thing.

Here’s what you need to know on how to make the play doh – 1 cup flour, 1/6 cup salt, 1 tbsp cream of tartar powder. Mix it together in a bowl. In a measuring cup, add 6 oz of boiling water with 1 tbsp cooking oil and 6-8 drops of food colouring. If you want a pastel coloured play doh, I’d do 4-5 drops of food colouring. Pour the liquid slowly into the dry mix and keep on mixing. You can also use a stand mixer, but I only pull those out when I play on making a crazy amount of play doh.

After its all blended in, continue to knead the play doh, adding extra flour to reach the consistency that you prefer.

That’s it! No, seriously – that’s really it! It’s awesome having this recipe on hand, whether its for your kids, yourself (no judgement), or even a play date – I love creating these play doh kits because it keeps the kids busy and helps them discover and create their own pieces of art.

Ingredients –

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/6 cup fine grain salt
  • 1 tbsp cream of tartar powder
  • 6 oz boiling water
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • Food colouring of your choice

Ever since I became a mom, people often ask me “how is your yoga coming along?”. Occasionally I’ll pop into poses for the gram, but that’s not really what Yoga is right? Sorry NOT Sorry
